Dr Paul Everden ( posted on Aug 9, 2018 )

Dr Paul Everden is planning to retire from Birchwood Surgery on 4th November 2018.

Paul has been at Birchwood for 30 years - many of them as senior partner. In his own words he has been very lucky to have had the chance to practice old fashioned family medicine having had the privilege of caring for generations within families. He has made many friends over the years and feels very honored to have been a trusted doctor to so many wonderful patients.

After leaving Birchwood Paul will continue with his teaching responsibilities at the University of East Anglia.

We would like to thank Paul for all he has done for Birchwood and wish him a very happy, healthy and long retirement.

Paul himself would like to take this opportunity to say a huge heart felt thank you to all his patients that he will greatly miss.

Patient Access Survey ( posted on Nov 15, 2017 )

NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Norfolk and Waveney wish to engage with local patients to understand their views on how additional appointments available at local GP surgeries should develop over the coming years.

As part of this national initiative, CCGs want to look at how they can improve access to healthcare by offering routine appointments outside of normal surgery hours (weekdays 8am to 6.30pm) and the local need for routine appointments at weekends.

A survey asking patients for their thoughts on this is available by copying and pasting into your browser the http:// link at the top of this item. The survey is open until 15th December.

GP Appointment Availability ( posted on May 3, 2017 )

We regret that we currently have quite long wait times for GP appointments due to absences that are beyond our control.

We are pleased however, that we will be welcoming two (and possibly three) new GPs to the surgery in August and at that point we are hopeful that we will have significantly improved GP appoiintment availability.

We continue to offer a full same day service for patients whose medical condition requires them to be seen more urgently and we hope that patients will bear with our staff as much as possible at the moment.

Welcome to Dr Ed Pinch ( posted on Nov 2, 2015 )

We would like to welcome Dr Ed Pinch to the surgery and wish him well for his time with us. Ed is standing in for Dr Everden for the next six months while he is away on sabbatical.

Dr Paul Everden Sabbatical ( posted on Sep 21, 2015 )

From the beginning of November this year, Dr Everden will be starting a six month sabbatical away from the surgery.

Paul is planning to take the time to travel to underdeveloped countries in both South East Asia and Africa. He also intends to further his own studies as there are two medical qualifications he wishes to attain.

He is sure you will not miss him as much as he will miss you!

Whilst Paul is away we have been extremely lucky to engage the services of Dr Ed Pinch. Dr Pinch has most recently been working as a doctor in New Zealand but has now returned to Norfolk – a county he knows well – where he used to be a partner at the Cringleford Surgery. By all accounts he was extremely well liked and respected by both patients and colleagues.

We look forward to welcoming Ed who will be looking after Paul’s patient’s for the six months that he is away.

New Trainee GPs ( posted on Sep 21, 2015 )

Birchwood has been teaching trainee GPs for many years and we are now very pleased to welcome three new trainees to the surgery - Drs. Lindsey Baxter, Ellie Barton and Hayley Bowron.

Our trainee doctors have regular bebrief sessions throughout the day with the Birchwood partners where consultations are discussed. Trainees also have free access to the partners to discuss complex cases whilst patients are in the surgery in order to ensure correct care and patient safety.

Named GP ( posted on Jun 4, 2015 )

All patients at Birchwood have a named accountable GP. If you are unsure who your GP is, please contact the reception team at the surgery.

Online Access To Records ( posted on Sep 30, 2014 )

Our practice is planning to offer patients the facility to view areas of their records online. The areas patients will be able to access will include a summary of information relating to medications, allergies and adverse reactions.  As well as viewing this information, there will be the facility to download and print it.  This will hopefully be available by 31st March 2015, subject to the availability of this service on our clinical system. Once the system is up and running, if patients do require online access to other areas of their record they will need to speak with the practice to facilitate this.

New Extension ( posted on Mar 26, 2012 )

The new extension to the surgery is now very nearly complete. The building works will see an additional four consulting rooms available together with a pharmacy which will be open for 100 hours every week.

We are all very appreciative to our patients for putting up with a considerable amount of disruption both in respect of car parking and access to the surgery itself. Likewise our staff have also coped with true grit and determination through loud noise, dust, the loss of telephones and computers to name but some of the aggrevations.

We hope that you will all be pleased with the new facilities which we feel helps prepare the surgery for the next few years to come.

New Online Facilities ( posted on Feb 4, 2011 )

Birchwood patients are now able to view, book and cancel their registered doctor appointments on the internet. They can also view and re-order their repeat medication on-line. For a guide and to register to use the system, please speak to our reception team who will be pleased to provide you with your username and password details.

24 Hour ECG Machine ( posted on Jun 29, 2009 )

The practice is delighted to announce that it now has a portable 24 hour ECG machine. This can be attached to patients whilst they continue with their normal daily routine, thus saving an initial journey to the Norfolk and Norwich hospital.

Medical Students ( posted on Sep 1, 2006 )

From September 2006, the practice will be teaching UEA medical students on Tuesdays and Fridays and will also host final year students for two separate two week periods before and after christmas.

Blood Pressure Machine ( posted on Aug 1, 2007 )

The surgery waiting room will soon see the addition of a blood pressure machine. The machine will be free for Birchwood patients to use - simply insert your arm and press the button. You will receive a print out showing your blood pressure and pulse.
