Medical Students and Trainee Doctor Teaching
Birchwood - in partnership with the UEA and the Eastern Deanery - provides medical student teaching facilities at the practice and also regularly hosts registrar trainee doctors for six monthly appointments.
Training prospective doctors is a key role and we are proud to have been selected to participate in this process. Student teaching is overseen by Drs Paul Everden, John Luck and James Gair but all doctors and staff will be involved on a regular basis. Paula Fox undertakes all teaching administration (email@example.com). Registrar training is overseen by Dr Stuart Davidson.
For their learning process to be worthwhile, it is essential that medical students are able to talk to patients and discuss real medical problems with them. For this reason please be aware that you might be asked if you are willing to participate in the teaching programme. If you are interested in being involved, please feel free to contact Paula or alternatively speak to one of our receptionists.
As a teaching practice it is important that patients should note the following:
- That their records may be disclosed to persons outside the primary care team which provides their care.
- That the purpose of such disclosure is strictly limited to a verification process which is required to ensure practice compliance with educational standards for trainee doctors.
- That the visit team are all subject to a strict duty of confidentiality.
- That any patient may object to the whole, or any part, of the inspection of their own medical records and that their objection will be respected.
